Large format printing, also known as wide-format is printing or grand printing, refers to printing materials in sizes that are too large to be printed on most commercial printers. It is a form of large-scale printing that employs special printers that can handle larger-than-usual print dimensions.

The term “large format” in the printing industry refers to the maximum print sizes, which vary from one printer to another.

However, the large format generally refers to the following types of print materials:

Wall and window posters

* Charts, diagrams, and maps
* Large wall calendars 
* Child growth charts 
* Large notices for students or employees 
* Standees 
* Oversized graphics commonly used in displays for meetings, on storefronts, and       trade shows among other places 
* Building wraps, large banners, billboards, vehicle graphics, and POP displays 
Any large display print material that cannot be produced by standard commercial printers

Most digital document printers print on rolls or sheets of materials using a toner that has an image area of between 11x17 inches and 14x20 inches. Any printer that can work on materials larger than 14x20 inches is a large format printer. There are many large format printers that can print sheets larger than 42 inches wide. The largest offset litho press can even print on 72 to 81 inches wide materials.
